A state almost literally at the heart or the center of the African continent, Rwanda has much to behold. Just like several other African countries, Rwanda is teeming with African wildlife and wilderness. One of the unique things you will get to do here is seeing rare golden monkeys, and mountain gorillas that find their home in bamboo forests. It’s really not just about the safari and savannah here, but the warmth of people you meet as well.

There are also a few volcanoes there for exploration.

Primate Safari Uganda is Ready to take you on this remarkable safari into Rwanda and the Fond Memory will be unforgettable.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrive and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

On arrival at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda, you will be received by one of our representative/guide who will welcome you to Rwanda and brief you about your safari. Thereafter, you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park. The park is part of the great Virunga volcano conservation region spanning to cover Virunga national park Congo and Mgahinga national park Uganda. Volcanoes national park is home to Mountain Gorilla and golden monkeys. The park also harbors 178 bird species including at least 29 endemics to the Rwenzori Mountains and the Virungas. In case, you have had an early landing in Rwanda you may opt for Kigali City tour before the transfer to the Volcanoes. You will reach and check into your accommodation and have relaxation and later you will have dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 2: Undertake golden monkey trekking and community visit.

Golden monkeys trekking takes place in Volcanoes national park and at the same time 7:00 just like gorillas. These rare species are also listed as endangered – and Volcanoes national park currently has two habituated golden monkeys’ troops that are available for visiting by tourists in the park, both of which make about 80 members. They are very active creatures, and jump from tree to tree which is really interesting and a little difficult to photograph! The golden monkey trek is worth going for while in Volcanoes National Park and if you’re interested in wildlife, this is a rare and delightful experience not to be missed! The exercise starts with a short briefing from the park ranger at the RDB Office. Thereafter, you will proceed to track the golden monkeys through the rainforest on the volcanoes. Later, you will go for a community visit (if time and energy allow) and thereafter return to your accommodation for the overnight stay.

Day 3: Go out for gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes NP.

After an early morning breakfast, walk to the park headquarters for the briefing on the dos and don’ts during this activity and thereafter you will proceed to the gorilla trail. Gorilla tracking normally lasts between 2 to 8 hours or even a day to encounter the gorillas. However, you will be allowed to stay in the presence of these awesome apes for at least an hour. It is advisable that you carry packed lunch as one cannot determine how long it may take to encounter the mountain gorillas. Return to your accommodation and have relaxation after the strenuous trekking. Later, you will have your dinner and the overnight rest.

Day 4: Exit Volcanoes and transfer to Nyungwe National Park.

Have a morning breakfast and then go for boat ride enroute Nyungwe. Thereafter, embark on the journey to Nyungwe National Park. Nyungwe National Park lies in southwest Rwanda, partly abutting the Burundi border. It’s a vast area of mountain rainforest, home to many species of chimpanzees, plus owl-faced and colobus monkeys. The Canopy Walkway is one of the highlights while here. A high suspension bridge with views over the valley and surrounding forests. You will enjoy the scenic drive to Nyungwe National Park, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon relaxation enjoying the Lodge’s amenities and also an evening tea ceremony.

Day 5: Undertake chimp trekking and the canopy walk experience.

Enjoy your breakfast and thereafter depart to Cyamudongo (where your chimp trekking will begin). You will return to your accommodation after the chimp trekking experience for lunch (awaiting the canopy walk experience). After your lunch and a brief repose at the accommodation, head out to undertake the canopy walk. This is the most incredible adventures you don’t want to miss. You will have the opportunity to see the monkeys move around in the treetops, the birds that are flying above you and below you and a beautiful view of the huge Nyungwe forest. It’s also an amazing sight.

Day 6: Exit Nyungwe, visit the ethnographic museum, King’s Palace Museum-Rukari and transfer to Kigali for flight out.

Have an early morning breakfast and then checkout to proceed to Butare (where you will visit) the ethnographic museum before embarking on a drive to Kigali. After the ethnographic museum, you will also visit King’s Palace Museum-Rukari (Based in Nyanza, 88 km south of Kigali City). This was the residence of King Mutara III Rudahigwa and the Royal Palace that was traditionally built. This Palace offers a detailed look into Rwandan traditional seat of their monarchy, it is an impressive museum, restored to its 19th century state and made entirely with traditional materials. Thereafter, transfer for your flight out (which we recommend to be in the late afternoon/evening) in Kigali. We hope to see you (or any referral) when next, you visit and thanks for choosing Primate Safari Uganda
